The University of Findlay
Department of Communication
The University of Findlay is a relatively large university located in Findlay, Ohio. Though it does not offer the standard Bachelor’s in Communications programs in Ohio that other programs do, it does have a Department of Communication that offers various ways for students to study this subject. They can earn a degree in either journalism and digital media or public relations. Students also have the chance to declare a minor in either digital media or interpersonal communication. Though the University of Akron now owns several campuses across Ohio, its largest campus is in Akron. Called its Main Campus, it’s home to the university’s School of Communication. This school offers one of the only graduate programs in communications in the entire state. Majors can gain communications experience in a few different ways. They can join the UA Speech and Debate Team and compete at the state and national levels or talk about their favorite films in the 2380 Film Club. One of the largest public university systems in Ohio today is the University of Cincinnati. Not only does it have a main campus in this large city, but it also operates smaller campuses in other parts of the state. University of Dayton
Department of Communication
One of the largest private schools affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church in Ohio is the University of Dayton. Established in the 1800s a small boys’ school created by the Society of Jesuits, it later added college classes and became coeducational. Also called UD, it offers various opportunities for communications majors such as a campus newspaper that goes out to students. Majors can also work for a paper that the university mails to alumni and locals or help out at the campus television or radio stations. UD students previously worked together on a television special that won a Student Emmy.
Bachelor of Arts

The University of Rio Grande is one of the more unique schools in Ohio because it consists of both a traditional university and a community college. Students can enroll in Rio Grande Community College and earn credits that will transfer to the full university. Undergraduate Programs
The University of Toledo is one of the few schools in Ohio that allows students to gain on-air experience before they graduate. Many of its students start out working behind the scenes on its television station and then get the chance to go in front of the camera and report to the public. Unlike other programs that are part of a school’s Department of Communication, this program is part of the college’s business program. Students will actually do two internships that allow them to work for local companies and national corporations. Wilmington College is one of the only schools in the Buckeye State to offer certificate programs that students can complete while working on a bachelor’s degree. These programs often include credits that will transfer into a degree program too. Students can study digital marketing, marketing or emotional intelligence and leadership. Springfield is one of the largest cities in southwestern Ohio and is just a short drive away from Dayton. Students enrolling at Wittenberg University who want to study communication can do internships in Dayton during the summer or over the course of the school year. Named after the Wright Brothers, Wright State University is a public university located in Dayton, Ohio. Its close proximity to the Wright Patterson Air Force Base led to a number of military students enrolling in its programs.
