5 Sororities and Fraternities for Communications Majors

Joining one of the top sororities and fraternities for communications majors is a great way to make some new friends and to develop professional relationships with others.

When most people think of fraternities and sororities, they automatically think of wild parties and crazy nights, but these organizations can help you form life-long friendships and professional connections too. In addition to the official communications frat, there are other Greek organizations that are suitable for communications majors.

Zeta Phi Eta

Zeta Phi Eta is the only official fraternity for communications majors. It bills itself as the National Professional Fraternity in the Communication Arts and Sciences. One of the most useful things this organization provides is its annual scholarship program. Students can apply for one of these scholarships after being a member for at least one year. They must also pay their membership dues and agree to use the funds for either school or job expenses.

Gamma Epsilon Tau

Some of the best sororities and fraternities for communications majors are those that are open to students of other majors too. Founded in 1953, Gamma Epsilon Tau is just one of those organizations. The fraternity has branches on seven college campuses and welcomes students majoring in graphic design and other art subjects. As many communications majors later work in advertising, marketing or public relations, this organization is helpful because it lets members pick up tips on using new forms of technology to design and create projects and campaigns.

Phi Gamma Nu

Communications majors often work in the business industry after graduation. That is why instead of joining traditional sororities and fraternities for communications majors, many of these majors will join at least one business organization like Phi Gamma Nu.

Since opening in 1942, the business fraternity created a number of programs that assist students as they near the end of their college programs. They can attend dinners and network with business owners from around the city or across the state, but they can also get help writing a compelling resume and cover letter.

Phi Gamma Nu also stages mock interviews that help students see what to expect in job interviews, learn how to respond to questions and find out what to do after an interview.

Delta Theta Phi

Though some law school students go pre-law in college, others select a major that will help them once they enroll in law school. Communications majors who want to attend law school may find that joining Delta Theta Phi is helpful. As one of the oldest professional law fraternities in the country, Delta Theta Phi provides members with more opportunities than other organizations do. Students can get help writing legal papers, learning how to communicate with other professionals and even with applying to law school.

Phi Beta

Other sororities and fraternities for communications majors include Phi Beta, which started in 1912 with just a single branch on a college campus in Illinois before spreading to other schools. This is one of the official organizations for students interested in the creative and performing arts. It provides them with help improving their skills, searching for jobs and even auditioning for upcoming shows. Phi Beta also does several major projects every year that help members develop stronger public speaking and communications skills.

While some fraternities and sororities help students make friends and have one, professional organizations provide them with support while in school and after they graduate. Though there is only one official organization for communications students, there are other sororities and fraternities for communications majors that you might want to join while in school like Phi Beta and Phi Gamma Nu.
